Linde was founded in 1879 by Carl von Linde, a prominent German engineer, inventor and scientist who made a significant contribution to the development of engineering, thermodynamics and cryogenics.

Carl was born in Bavaria in 1842 and received his technical education at the ETH Zurich. In 1876, he invented a mechanical refrigeration machine based on experiments on the expansion of ammonia. This was essentially a breakthrough in the development of industrial production, and specifically the food industry.

His innovations helped to create systems for storing, cooling, and transporting food.

At the beginning of its activity, Linde (Linde's Eismaschinen) specialized exclusively in the production of refrigeration equipment and cooling systems. 

In 1895, the company developed the technology of air liquefaction, which became the basis for the development of cryogenics. Within a few years, Linde became a leader in industrial gases and technologies.

In the first half of the twentieth century, Linde expanded its activities and began to manufacture gas compressors and gas liquefaction systems. During World War II, it became one of the main suppliers to the German military industry.

In the 70s, Linde entered the global market and began to establish branches in other countries. 

In the middle of the 20th century, Linde entered the hydraulic systems industry. The company began active development and production of components for special machinery and construction equipment.

The company invested heavily in research and development of hydraulic technologies, particularly in the field of motors and piston pumps.
A separate division, Linde Hydraulics, was created to manufacture hydraulics for agricultural machinery and construction equipment (including excavators, loaders, and bulldozers). 

Linde hydraulics became known worldwide for its reliability and high efficiency, as well as its ability to operate in extreme conditions

In 2006, Linde acquired the British company BOC Group. This made the company one of the largest suppliers of liquefied industrial gases.

Today, Linde operates in more than 100 countries around the world, serving its customers in various industrial sectors

Linde Hydraulics operates as a separate company, Linde Hydraulics, which was partially sold to Weichai Power in 2012 and now holds a controlling stake. 

The company is owned by many shareholders around the world, including private investors and investment funds, and is actively developing in the field of hydraulic systems, supplying quality Linde hydraulics to the global market
